eternal spark
This song is originally a love letter to my wife about falling into her eternal spark and connecting with her on a deep soul level – but it’s about more than that.

cover it all
When my wife and I were on the brink of a horrible break-up and nearly divorced, it was our love for each other, our unwavering commitment to that love and our love for God that got us through it all.

Pull Me Closer
This song was inspired by a morning prayer walk in which I was struck by how much God was revealing His power and beauty to me via the colors and canvas of the fields, the trees, the sky, the wind and the beautiful elements that surrounded me in the moment – all serving to “pull me closer” to my Creator.

You’re Great
This upbeat, driving rock song I recorded in Nashville then goes on to describe how God and God’s strength and power can be revealed in so many encounters of our daily existence, and that when your strength starts failing and you feel like you can’t keep fighting…
“There’s a reason you can smile, and kiss the rain at every mile…”
I think you’ll really dig this one, and find it incredibly inspirational for a workout, a tough task, or just giving you a big boost of energy when you need a pick-me-up during the day.
I’d love to hear what you think after blasting this one on full volume the next time you hit the gym or charge down the highway!

My new song “You’re Great” begins with this line:
“Bullet trains, ‘n every broken chain
You are in the gray.
Darker days of every single shade, yeah
You are still the same”

It’s no secret that music is, and always has been, a huge passion of mine. I use music for relaxation, for medicine, for energy, for sleep, for worship, and as a creative outlet for the words and tunes that seem to swirl around my mind at least once a week.
This latest track from my new album is called “Pull Me Closer.” It was inspired by a morning prayer walk in which I was struck by how much God was revealing His power and beauty to me via the colors and canvas of the fields, the trees, the sky, the wind and the beautiful elements that surrounded me in the moment – all serving to “pull me closer” to my Creator.
As the lyrics to this song say “creation cries, explosions in every shade…pull me closer…it pulls me closer to you…”
Enjoy, feel free to give it a like wherever you listen, share it with a friend, and most importantly, blast this one loud on a good set of speakers because in my humble opinion, the production quality is STELLAR (huge shoutout to my friend @thechadcarouthers for that).
When my wife and I were on the brink of a horrible break-up and nearly divorced, primarily because of my personal sins and shortcomings as a father and husband (a story I tell here), it was our love for each other, our unwavering commitment to that love and our love for God that got us through it all and eventually brought us back together stronger than ever.
These days, whenever we have an argument, disagreement, falling out, or general strife in our relationships or in our household, my family and I have a saying we often use, taken from 1 Corinthians 13 in the Bible, and reflective of the love my wife and I relied on nearly a decade ago when we were going through so many relationship difficulties. The saying goes like this: “Love covers all.”
The passage from 1 Corinthians 13 about love goes like this: “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
And hence the title of this latest song from my new album. It is called “Cover It All,” and tells the story of me trying to be atlas and carry the world, and nearly losing everything I loved in the process. It also tells the story of my wife’s unwavering commitment, and the love that now holds us together with faith, hope and grace.
So enjoy this love song, and listen in towards the end for a special cameo appearance from my wife Jessa. And give the song a like wherever you hear it!
This song is originally a love letter to my wife about falling into her eternal spark and connecting with her on a deep soul level – but it’s about more than that because it reflects the idea of an invisible, glowing spark inside each of us that fuels our drive, our passion and our purpose, and also reflect our importance and worth far more than our looks, or our muscles, or our clothing…
…so what is your spark?
Your spark doesn’t have to be your life’s purpose or part of your career or your deepest identity. It can simply be the part of you that lights up when you’re engaging in activities that feed your soul and make you happy, even if your spark-lighters seem trite or don’t “advance your career” or “build your health” in some way.
Don’t worry about *doing* so much; instead, focus on the *being* that fuels your spark. Incidentally, this message is beautifully reflected in Pixar’s animated movie “Soul.”
You may also see a glimpse of someone’s spark when you look deep into that someone’s eyes: the windows to their soul. When I’m interacting with someone, I try my best to look past the physical, fleshly shell of a human being and instead attempt to see them as an ethereal, infinite spark as I look into their eyes and peer into their soul.
In this song, I sing about gazing into the deepest blue eyes of my wife and finding myself subsequently free-falling into the brightest blue eternal star…
“Just show the light that lasts forever
Oh from your heart, oh from your soul
Open your eyes, just for a moment.
I wanna fall into your deepest blue.”
Made For is obviously the big title song for the whole album!
I really poured my heart and soul into this one, as you’ll probably hear when you listen to my voice nearly straining to bust out the “breathe this all in, be here right now” elements of the chorus (I barely hit the notes on this one!).
Anyways, I wrote this song as an inspiration for you to be fully present to what the world around you is telling you right now – with your eyes wide open, a fearless and hopeful spirit, and a knowledge deep down inside that God has a great purpose for your life – all you need to do is pay attention and trust the clues He’s constantly sending your way.
Enjoy, and please be sure to give the song a like and leave your comments wherever you happen to take a listen.
I have finally fulfilled my “bucket list” dream of recording an album in Nashville!
I wrote this song for my sons, River and Terran (you’ll notice the sneaky part in the lyrics where I call them out: “Run wild like a river, and shake the ground, live louder than thunder!).”
This song reflects the deep bond and adventurous spirit shared between father and sons, and it is definitely meant to crank out loud while driving in your car by yourself, or with your own children – preferably en route to an adventure like a big hike, a baseball game or a hunting expedition.
Be sure to give it a rating on whatever platform you’re listening to, share it with a friend who you think might dig it, leave it a like, and share with me any creative feedback you may have!
